(Akiit.com) Walking onto the floor of the new Congress must’ve been like visiting the planet of Tatooine where Obi-Wan Kenobi stumbled into a hive of misfits in that Star Wars cantina bar scene.
There was the Israel-hating Rep. Rashida “Impeach The Mother**ker” Tlaib (D-Mich.), who defiantly said after bipartisan criticism, “The president has met his match.”
You also had Kyrsten Lea Sinema who took her oath, not on a Bible but a copy of the U.S. Constitution, to become the first openly bisexual elected to the U.S. Senate.
You had the savior of Guam, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.), comparing Trump to Hitler; Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) introducing a bill to abolish the Electoral College; and Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) filing a resolution to impeach Trump.
My, my…
Lastly, there was the Democrats’ shiniest object: Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She told Anderson Cooper that she’d pay for her authoritarian “Green New Deal” by imposing a 70 percent tax on the “tippy top” rich. The loot would be used to kill fossil fuels within 12 years.
Of the bunch, Ocasio-Cortez is the most insidious. She is a screaming siren sending a warning signal that the American ship has veered dangerously toward Utopia; that the Marxist cult that so insidiously overtook our universities is now getting into the lawmaking business.
We’re in very dangerous waters.
What’s so alarming is that Ocasio-Cortez is a wolf in sheep’s clothing who admits that she’s a wolf. And crowds clap. She huffs and puffs to blow the American house down, and the media scrambles to make sure she has plenty of oxygen. She’s been everywhere, before doing anything – except huffing and puffing.
“Capitalism has not always existed in the world,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a PBS interview last year, “and it will not always exist in the world. When this country started, we were not a capitalist [nation]; we did not operate on a capitalist economy.”
Ocasio-Cortez should be grateful she wasn’t around when the country started. The “no taxation without representation” crowd would’ve covered her in organic Stockholm tar and feathers to make sure she remembered that it’s their hard-earned dollars she’s spending.
On Rachel Maddow’s show, the 29-year-old lawmaker said on Tuesday that migrants who want to defy U.S. law by entering the country illegally are “more American” than those trying to enforce the law – especially ICE, who she wants to abolish. Really passionate. Really dumb.
How on Earth did this socialist make it to Washington? I blame inept politicians of all parties – pathological oath-breakers – but mostly the Democrats. Their big government ideology and ruthless Goebbels-style propaganda nurtured the ideals that gave birth to Ocasio-Cortez.
Think about it. Is Ocasio-Cortez’s contempt for the rich any different from Elizabeth Warren’s, who said, “This country isn’t working for working people; this country is working for people at the top”?
Or from Obama’s soak-the-rich instinct: “I do think, at a certain point, you’ve made enough money,” he muttered in 2010.
That’s the same Obama who “invested” some $90 billion in tax credits and direct spending to fund his own “Green New Deal” as part of the $787 billion stimulus package in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Or even from Maxine Waters’ views, who once told the head of Shell Oil: “This government will be about socializing, uh, uh (pause), would be about basically taking over and the government running all of your businesses.”
If you peel back all the layers of Ocasio-Cortez’s brand of “Swedish-style” socialism, it is a kernel from the same cob that not only produced modern liberalism but leftism, communism, Marxism and even fascism.
They all share one common root: They want to supplant the genius of market forces with a government-planned economy engineered by a handful of intellectual elites for some greater good – like social justice or income inequality.
Economist Friedrich Hayek said as much in “The Road To Serfdom,” published in 1944 – a book he dedicated to the “Socialists of all parties.”
“[Many} who think themselves infinitely superior to the aberrations of [Nazism], and sincerely hate all its manifestations, work at the same time for ideals whose realization would lead straight to the abhorred tyranny.”
Hayek wrote that government control of economic decision-making through central planning versus decentralized competition leads to two irreconcilable economic outcomes: One, inevitably to more authoritarianism; the other, inevitably to more freedom.
Nazism, fascism and socialism, he said, are all rooted in central planning, and no matter how well meaning, any government that seeks “freedom” and “social justice” through central planning puts the country on the road to serfdom.
“Is there a greater tragedy imaginable than that, in our endeavor consciously to shape our future in accordance with high ideals,” Hayak wrote, “we should in fact unwittingly produce the very opposite of what we have been striving for?”
Well-meaning benevolent despots have done that in the United States for decades now. Beginning with the New Deal that entrenched the U.S. welfare system, America has been well on the road to serfdom ever since.
America was built on the idea that government was created to protect life, liberty and property. What sort of political reasoning makes Ocasio-Cortez think it’s OK to legally confiscate the property of people who rightfully earned it?
“How is legal plunder to be identified?” wrote French economist Frederic Bastiat in “The Law” published in 1850. “Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay …”
In the minds of socialists, leftists, liberals and anarchists, they’re battling to prevent the destruction of the American Empire against the sinister Sith Lord Darth Trump. For them, Princess Alexandria, a member of the Imperial Congress and agent of the Resistance Alliance, plays a critical role in battling against this cataclysmic superweapon on two legs.
But while we all know they’re delusional – just misfits inside a “wretched hive of scum and villainy” – we better take them seriously. Princess Alexandria and the Resistance Alliance are fomenting revolution through the making of law.
