(Akiit.com) One of the hardest industries to get involved with is the music industry. Following your dreams is one thing but when the place you want them to lead you is shut up with lock and key, it can be a little harder. This doesn’t mean that you should ever give up, though. Anything that’s worth having isn’t easy and you’re going to learn this if you want to be a part of the music industry. There are a lot of steps that you could take to get into the music industry, but you have to be willing to work for that big break that you want to be given.
Whether you want your band to be as big as One Direction or you want to go into the managerial side of music and be the next Coran Capshaw, you need to have your dreams turned into goals and stay as focused as possible. The music industry is a wide place with many roles and a lot of people who are vying for them. Below, you’ll find some of the ways that you can get into the music world and show off your talents, whatever they may be.
Start A Blog. Blogging is something that, these days, gets you noticed. You should position yourself as an authority online, talking about music from an angle that you understand and that you can talk to others about. It’s a great way to show people what you can do, who you know and interact with those who are interested in speaking to you about those things. It’s a great way to put yourself out there in the industry and get some work experience, whether paid or not, and you can find yourself a voice online to talk about your successes.
Find A Mentor. One of the best things that you can do for yourself to break into the music world is to find someone to give you advice. You gain traction in the industry, you can meet new people who are connected to the world that you want to be a part of and you can do this by attending music shows and street teaming (more about that below). You get to show someone else your passion for music and you can work forward with them.
Network. To break into the music industry, it’s not always about what you know, but whom. Get active across platforms on social media and if you have the time and the equipment, start a vlog. You can sing, talk, show off all about you on your vlog and this can help people to gain a little interest in you and what you can do.
Street Teaming. This is how you make those mega important connections in the industry. You can have a go at handing out promotional material for other artists and getting to know new people doing this. Labels and music companies are always looking for those excited for this role.
Put yourself out there, and magic can happen.
