(Akiit.com) Do you love music? If you do, it’s probably a big part of your life and who you are. But this can lead to problems whether you’re listening to music, playing it, or trying to turn it into a fully realised career. Here are a few of the issues in life only music lovers will truly understand.
They Just Don’t Get It
Any lover of music will have heard these painful words: it’s just noise. That could be someone describing your favourite band or even someone describing the music you’re playing. It can be soul crushing to hear this, particularly if you have spent hours perfecting your sound. But you just have to remember that music is art and art is always perspective. For everyone who sees the beauty in the array of colours, there will be plenty of others who claim it’s too bright. There will be always be people who love your music, but there will be many more who won’t even use the word music to describe the noise you’re making.
Can You Turn It Down?
Ah, this always happens. You’re just finding your sound when all of a sudden there’s a thud, thud, thud. You haven’t started tampering with the drums yet so you know it’s that all too familiar knock at the door. Open it, and you’ll find a red-faced neighbour demanding that you turn your music down. If you’re lucky, they’ll be polite about it and if not they might have arrived with the police. That’s not an exaggeration, particularly if you like practising late at night. You could be disturbing the peace. Luckily, there is a solution. You can get soundproofing kits for your home. By soundproofing your home studio, you can make sure you can play your music loud without bothering the neighbours. Although, if you live in an apartment, you might have a slight issue with vibrating walls.
There’s another benefit of kits like this too. It doesn’t just keep your music in, it keeps other sounds out. That means if you live by a busy street you’ll still be able to record in peace and quiet.
How Much Do You Make Again?
If you’re in the music industry that law of averages can be pretty harsh. The average pay for musicians in the USA is around forty thousand dollars a year. That’s not too bad, but it does feel quite poor when you realise there are plenty of musicians in the one percent. These are the exception, not the rule, and that’s why you should never become a musician to make money. The odds are that you won’t, and instead, you should only make music your career if you have a true passion for it, no matter how much money you might be making. Sometimes, you might even need to complete another job to fund your passion.
Choke
Last but not least there’s the trouble with choking. At some point or another if you’re playing music for people you will choke. It might be because you make a mistake early on or your mind may just go blank halfway through a beautiful melody. Take solace in one fact. Every lover of music has experienced this, and they all get through it one way or another.
